How to establish a Family Memorial Research Grant.

The CJD Foundation Memorial Grant Program allows families to directly support prion disease research, including studies on diagnostics, disease mechanisms, and treatments.  Each year the CJD Foundation issues a Call for Research Grant Applications and asks the Scientific Advisory Committee to review and rate those studies.  The CJD Foundation then awards research grants to the top-rated applications from around the US and the world.  To date the CJD Foundation has funded nearly $5 million in prion disease research.

Families may choose to fund Memorial Grants in increments of $10,000 or more.  The CJD Foundation compiles Research Grants from multiple funding sources, including Family Memorial Grants.

Here are ways to provide these funds:

  1. Donate in one or two scheduled payments (as detailed in a Memorial Research Grant agreement).
  2. Families have raised funds for research in many creative ways. Many find that the act of fundraising engages their friends and family in the battle against CJD, and promotes opportunities to raise awareness and educate their communities about CJD and its impact. Fundraisers have included benefit dinners, music shows, runs, raffles, golf outings, and more. Setting up a page for your fundraiser enables you to route online donations to the CJD Foundation.
